Edward Emmeran Fallis, age 92, of Durham, North Carolina passed away December 18, 2016. Born in Gloversville, he was a lifelong resident of the Gloversville and Mayfield area until several years ago when he moved closer to his daughters. He was the son of the late Emmeran Lawrence Fallis and Ella Louise (Hohler) Fallis.
Mr. Fallis attended Gloversville schools and went on to honorably and proudly serve his country during WWII. He served with the United States Army 8th Armored Division, nicknamed the "Thundering Herd". In 1945, his division liberated the Halberstadt-Zwieberge concentration camp. Upon returning home, he was offered a position with the New York Yankees Minor League team, the Amsterdam Rugmakers. He chose instead to remain in Gloversville near family and the girl whom he would marry. On December 6th, 1947 he was joined in marriage with Margaret Ann Serviss. They were married 57 1/2 years until her death in July of 2005.
Mr. Fallis retired as Post Master from the Amsterdam Post Office. He then worked for Nathan Littauer Hospital retiring from there. He loved baseball, big band music, dancing and traveling.
He is survived by his daughters Heidi Schultz (Bruce) of Durham North Carolina and Wendy Putman (Bill) of Laurel Maryland, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Fallis was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen (Fallis) Creedon and sister Arlene (Fallis) Ipsen.
Burial with military honors will take place at 1pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road Schuylerville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Medical Foundation UNC Hospice 880 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd Chapel Hill, NC 27514, or a charity of your choice.
