Saratoga Springs, NY - Edward R. Grohs, 68, formerly of Chester, NY, passed away peacefully Monday night Dec. 14, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. Edward was born on Aug. 21, 1941 in Teaneck, NJ and was the son of Gloria (Armstrong) Grohs and the late Edward H. Grohs. He was a 1958 graduate of Hackensack High School in New Jersey. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Military Police Officer stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was happily married to his beloved wife, Linda (Martin) for 45 wonderful years. Ed lived the early years of his life in northern New Jersey before moving with Linda and their family to Chester, NY in 1972. He retired after a distinguished career with the New York City Police Department, proudly serving for twenty years as a patrolman. He received the prestigious Medal of Valor in 1971 for gallantry in the performance of his duties. Upon retiring from the NYPD in 1984, Ed embarked on a second career with E. Tetz and Sons Concrete in Middletown, NY working closely with the owners of this family owned business before retiring in 2003. At that time, Ed and Linda moved to their present home in Saratoga Springs. In addition to his father, Ed was predeceased by his brother Matthew. Survivors include his loving wife, Linda of Saratoga Springs, NY and his three children; Kevin and his wife Allison of South Windsor, CT, Andrea and her husband John Carway of Warwick, NY and Jessica and her husband James Dennehy of Goshen, NY. Ed was also the proud grandfather of eleven wonderful grandchildren; John, Matthew, Emily and Brian Grohs; Sarah, Sean, and Erin Carway; and Meghan, Katie, Ryan, and Ella Dennehy. Other survivors include his mother Gloria Grohs of Hamburg,NJ; his sisters, Gloria and her husband John Goebeler of Peachtree City, GA, Gail and her husband James of Great Meadows, NJ, Lisa and her husband Scott of Wantage, NJ; his brothers, Michael and his wife Donna of Tunkhannock, PA, Stephen and his wife Kim of Branchville, NJ, James and his wife Christine of Branchville, NJ, Mark and his wife Linda of Hardwick, NJ; his sister-in-law, Judy Grohs of Middlebury, VT and his brother-in-law, John Martin and his wife Carol of Valley Cottage, NY. A celebration of Ed's life is planned for 1:00 pm Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at the Bull's Head Inn, 120 Sarah Wells Trail, Campbell Hall, NY. The family would like to invite all of their relatives and friends to join them as they remember the positive impact that Ed had on their lives.
