November 2, 1932 – July 13, 2018
Saratoga Springs - Edward Meers, 85, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 following a long illness. He was born on November 2nd, 1932 in Whitehall, NY, and is the son of the late Harry and Madeline Meers.
Ed was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church is Greenfield Center. He served our country during the Korean War as a member of the US Navy. Ed was an engineer aboard the USS Pittsburgh in the 6th fleet.
Following his honorable discharge from the armed forces he worked the majority of his career for the Van Raalte Co., before retiring as an employee of Saratoga County. His favorite activities included hunting, fishing, archery and attending the Schaghticoke County and New York State Fairs. He also loved attending the Blue Angels Air Show
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Meers and one brother Raymond Meers.
He is survived by three children; Jeffrey Meers (wife Flo Meers), Carol Meers (finacee, Gregg Bradley) and Kevin Meers, two grand-children; Amanda Malinoski and Jill Redznak (husband Alex Redznak), 3 great-grandchildren; Alexandra Aratare, Aiden Aratare and Grace Duffney, one grand-dog; Kora, and one brother; Thomas Meers.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4 to 7PM on Tuesday, July 17th, at William J. Burke & Sons, Bussing & Cunniff, Inc. Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Wednesday, July 18, 2018 in the historic Church of St Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, by the Rev. Thomas H. Chevalier, Pastor. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Edward's name to The Gateway House of Peace, 479 Rowland St, Ballaston Spa, NY 12020.
