Saratoga Springs, NY - Edward "Ned" Joseph Minahan passed away at the age of 82 on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Saratoga Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born on May 2, 1938, at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, Ned was the son of the late Dr. Edward J. Minahan and Lyda Harrington Minahan. He was a 1956 graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy and later attended Hudson Valley Community College and Siena. Ned served several years in the US Army before becoming a New York State Trooper in 1962. During his 30 year career he rose through the ranks as a New York State Trooper before being promoted to Assistant Deputy Superintendent, commanding the Uniformed Force of the NY State Police. He held this position until his retirement in 1991.
During his retirement Ned enjoyed travelling overseas with his wife and spending time with his family at their home in Vero Beach, Florida. He was an avid golfer and softball player and especially enjoyed playing for the Vero Beach Codgers. Ned was an active communicant at The Church of St. Peter's in Saratoga Springs.
Ned is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion E. McSherry Minahan; four children Michael Minahan (Kelly), Christopher Minahan, Elizabeth Rezac (John), and Eileen Cook (Bill); grandchildren, Nicole and Sarah Minahan, Loren, Patrick, and Jake Minahan, Kevin and Emily Rezac, Billy, Brittany, and Jake Cook; and great grandchild Daniel Mach.
He will forever be remembered by his family as "Poppy" and for his generous spirit and ability to make those around him smile.
Due to COVID restrictions there will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 30, 2021 at 10:30am at the historic Church of St. Peters, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery at 12noon. Details to be announced at a later date.
