Mechanicville, NY – Edwin A. Batchelder Sr. passed away Thursday April 7, 2022 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 89.

Born April 28, 1932 in Mechanicville and he was the son of the late Frederick and Madaline Jones Batchelder.

He married Mary Carmella Piroli on June 15, 1952. They began their family in 1954 with their daughter Rita Ann, and sons Edwin Jr in 1956 and John Ernest in 1958. Ed enjoyed woodworking, gardening and cooking. In his younger years, he was a fantastic catcher and loved to swim and ice skate.

"Eddie" as his friends called him, was a jack of all trades. He worked for the West Virginia Pulp & Paper Mill, Duke Alonzo, Tony Fortune and finally for the Mechanicville DPW until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his wife of 58 years Mary "Carm"; their son John Ernest; siblings Paul, Allen and Violet Batchelder and Marge Lavelle Foracker and one great grandson Colby Batchelder.

He is survived by his daughter Rita Ann (Frederick) Hosley; son Edwin A. (Carole Alonzo) Batchelder Jr.; three siblings, Bunetta Raucci, Fred (Tiny) Batchelder and Eileen Cwiaklea; nine grandchildren, Tom, Jason, Eddie, John, Casey, Courtney, Kelli, Emily and Nadine; twelve great grandchildren and daughter-in-law Jeanne Carpenter Batchelder. He was expecting his 1 ^st great great granddaughter in August of this year.

Relatives and friends may call from 11am to 1pm Monday April 11, 2022 at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Ave., Mechanicville. A funeral home service will follow at 1pm.

Burial will be at the family plot in St. Paul's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Colby Batchelder Memorial Scholarship Fund, Trutsco Bank, 2 Main St, Schaghticoke, NY 12154.
