Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Edwin A. Meyer passed away on October 9, 2016 at Saratoga Hospital after a brief illness. He was 78.

Born in Schenectady, NY on April 22, 1938, he was the son of the late Albert and Ethel Meyer. Edwin attended school in Schenectady and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. He participated on the school's varsity baseball and basketball teams. He later attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where he also played baseball. In 1950, he played in the original Schenectady Little League and was selected as the first ever MVP.

Edwin served with the U.S. Armed Forces as a member of the New York Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve.

He worked for 43 years as a customer service employee at the Albany International Airport, initially with Eastern Airlines, followed by Mohawk, Allegheny, US Air, and then retiring with US Airways. While working for Eastern Airlines, he met one of their charming flight attendants, Nancy Morcombe from Burnt Hills, who soon became his devoted and loving wife of 50 years. They enjoyed the world of travel, especially their frequent trips to the Hawaiian Islands.

His many interests included listening to all kinds of music and attending performances of the NYC Ballet and The Philadelphia Orchestra at SPAC, attending sporting events, daily workouts at the Wilton YMCA, keeping up with his cherished grandchildren, and being an avid reader.

Edwin was a longtime member of the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, serving as an usher for many years, and the Schenectady Ole Timers Baseball Club, serving as the club's Treasurer. He played semi-pro baseball and later played softball in the fast pitch leagues at Sportsman Park in Schenectady and Kaydeross Park in Saratoga Springs.

In addition to his parents, Edwin is predeceased by his wife, Nancy, who passed away in 2014, and his sister, Audrey Pettingill. He is survived by his three children, Susan Meyer (Jack Powell) from Schuylerville, Ted Meyer from New York City, and Sandra (Andrew) Swayne from Clifton Park; four grandchildren, Jasmine and Cianan Allen-Meyer and Madeline and Derek Swayne; a great-granddaughter, Ava Lynn; his cat, Tag; and several nieces and nephews.
