Saratoga Springs, NY - Edwin (Ed) F. Rourke peacefully passed away Monday (Mar. 23, 2009). He was 89. Born on Feb. 28, 1920 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Edwin and Bertha (Boyer) Rourke. Ed is a US Army veteran, serving during World War Two. Later in life he volunteered at the NYS Military Museum in Saratoga Springs and had retired from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. Ed was a member of the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, was an enthusiastic bridge player and a cheerful friend. Survivors include a son, John T. Rourke of Coventry, CT; a daughter, Susannah Lee (George) Igler of Saratoga Springs and four grandchildren, John Michael Rourke of Vernon, CT, Elizabeth Lee Igler and husband Peter Barbuto, Katherine Lee Igler and husband Sean Erreger and George Matthew Igler, all of Saratoga Springs; one great grandson, Henry Samuel Erreger, also of Saratoga Springs and one very special friend. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nancy Lee Rourke, who died in 1999 and his son, Michael F. Rourke. A memorial service, to celebrate Eds life, will be held at the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 11 AM. Friends are invited to join the family in the Wilson Fellowship Hall for refreshments following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway (584-5373).
