IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elaine
Norman
March 19, 1953 – December 12, 2017
Apollo Beach, FL - Elaine "Lainie" Dunson Norman, 64, died at home on December 12, 2017. After a three year fight with cancer, a truly caring, loving and giving woman of this world had to leave us. At her side stood her devoted husband (best friend) loving sisters, and niece. Lainie was born in Saratoga Springs, NY, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Dunson.
Before marrying her husband Ted J. Norman of Argyle, NY, Lainie was the owner of LaNay's, a fine women's boutique shop in downtown Saratoga. Filled with compassion and interest in others, it was during her time here that Lainie was able to help other women enjoy fashion the way she did. After her husband made a change in his career, the couple moved away from the area and the shop was closed.
Lainie always found a way to continue to help people wherever she went. She became a competitive swim coach and official for some of the nation's top level swim teams under the
United States Swimming Association. It was through her coaching and mentoring that Lainie was able to help so many young athletes develop the talents they'd been given in the sport.
Before her illness, you may have found Lainie walking her beloved dog, digging in the garden, or hosting a get together for her friends and family. You could also find her enjoying country music, candy, or even a strong old fashioned as she danced and toasted to life's sweet moments every second she was able to.
Lainie is survived by her husband Ted, and her three children and spouses: Matt (Caroline) Greene, Whitney (Brett) Ryan, and Kendra (Justin) Brown. She also has four grandchildren;
Quentin Ryan, Adeline Brown, Sophia and Isabella Greene.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to any cancer or mental health foundation would be an appropriate and appreciated way to celebrate her love for healing others.
Lainie's life will be celebrated from noon to 1pm, Friday, January 5, 2018 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373).
A funeral home service will follow at 1pm and burial will follow at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 2:30pm. To honor her wishes, no public reception will follow.
