Saratoga Springs, NY - Eleanor Samworth passed away on August 6th, 2022 at home in the company of friends. She is survived by her brother Robert, her nieces and nephews, Catherine, Andrew, and Elizabeth, and her grand-nieces and nephews, Maria, Bridget, John, and Evan.

Eleanor was born on May 10th, 1936 in Wilmington, DE and grew up in nearby Marshallton. She earned a bachelor's degree from Wilson College, a master's and PHD from John Hopkins in physical chemistry, and did post-doc studies at Harvard. She took a teaching position at Skidmore College in 1964, served as the Chair of the Chemistry/Physics Department, and retired in 1994.

Eleanor was passionate about higher education and was an avid reader. She loved cats, golf, and knitting. After retirement, she volunteered with local organizations to help the elderly with their taxes and knitted countless pairs of mittens and hats for those who needed them.

Over the last few years she remained calm and unafraid while undergoing treatments for various illnesses. We are grateful to have had her in our lives.

The family is holding a private memorial service in Maryland.
