Saratoga Springs, NY - Elinor Frances Whitaker Ambo passed away Sunday (March 28, 2010) at the Wesley Health Care Center, Lawrence Street. She was 91. Born on February 22, 1919 in Gill, MA, the youngest of eight children to Charles Herbert and Orra May (Hale ) Whitaker, she was married to Anthony Ambo of Greenfield, MA on April 22, 1935 and he died June 13, 2001. In her early years she worked at the Silver Shop in Greenfield, MA and the rest of her working life was spent helping her husband, who trained and raced horses at the Saratoga Harness Raceway. Elinor will be remembered and missed for her lovely smile, sense of humor and fun, and her love of family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her three sisters and four brothers, Ruth, Ruby, Eva, Carl, Percy, Wallace and Holman Whitaker. Survivors are Beverly Leyden and Arolyn Lake of ME, Carolyn Cox of VA, Doris Harrington of SC, Wayne North of MA, Janet Rura of IN, Charles Sedgwick and Linda Sedgwick of FL, Lester Whitaker of VT; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Ambo, Bernice Ambo, Audrey Ambo, all of Greenfield, MA; several other nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews in the Whitaker and Ambo families. The family is deeply appreciative of the loving care provided to Elinor by the nurses and staff at Wesley Health Care Center.
