Saratoga Springs, NY – Elinor (Ellie) Johnson Riter, 90, of White St., died Friday morning (Feb. 10, 2023) at Saratoga Hospital.

Born on Oct. 2, 1932 in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Gerald Matthew and Geraldine Agnes (Crooks) Johnson. A 1950 graduate of the former St. Peter's Academy on Broadway, she received a bachelor's degree in History from the College of St. Elizabeth in 1954. From 1955 to 1960, Elinor taught at Schuylerville High School and later in the Saratoga Springs City School District from 1962 until retiring in 1990.

Upon retiring, Ellie held numerous part-time jobs which included hostessing at Bruno's restaurant, switchboard operator for the City of Saratoga Springs and served as the front desk clerk at The Springs Motel. In each of these positions, Ellie met and formed close, lifelong friendships.

A longtime parishioner of the Church of St. Peter, she volunteered with the parish's weekly offertory collection tabulations and was also a representative for the New York State United Teachers Association (NYSUT).

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by two sisters, Carol Fermoile and Marjorie Siegenthaler.

Survivors include her daughter, Jo-Anne (Jonathan) Curtis, her son John P. Noonan, her sister Geraldine Ferris (Gerald) and several nieces.

Relatives and friends may call from 10 to 11am Friday (Feb. 17, 2023) in the historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am in the church and celebrated by the Rev. Thomas H. Chevalier, pastor.

Committal services will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave.

A celebration of Ellie's life will take place at a later date.
