Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY Elizabeth Betty A. (Wright) Benton, of Nelson Ave., passed away Monday evening (Nov. 23, 2009) at Saratoga Hospital. She was 89. Born on Dec. 7, 1919 in Saratoga Springs, she was a daughter of the late Paul H. and Edna M. (Payne) Wright and was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School. Betty had worked at Mr. Jacks His and Her Shop on Broadway for several years and was a member of the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church. She was also employed for twenty four years in the finance department for the city of Saratoga Springs and retired earlier this year as a senior account clerk. Mayor Scott T. Johnson issued a city proclamation recognizing her responsible value as a part time employee with full time effort and an extraordinary public servant, creating a void upon her retirement. Betty was a long time member of the K of C bocce league and enjoyed many friendships. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm A. Benton, who died Dec. 21, 2002; two sisters and one brother, Phyllis Jebo, Dorothy Benton and Kenneth Wright and one nephew, Paul Chops Woodcock. Survivors include one sister, Janet Woodcock of Saratoga Springs; one brother, Paul D. Wright of Medford, OR; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews, especially including her fond 10 year old Spencer Marx and 5 year old Nathan Marx. Relatives and friends may call from 10 to 12noon Monday (Nov. 30, 2009) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Funeral services will be conducted at noon Monday at the funeral home by the Rev. Dr. Brolin Parker, pastor of the United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the family plot at Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Avenue. Memorials may be made in her name to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
