IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth F.
Dorsey
October 24, 1931 – February 6, 2017
Saratoga Springs – Elizabeth F. Dorsey, 85, passed away February 6, 2017 after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Born October 24, 1931 in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of Paul Koval and Mary Koval. Betty is survived by her four children, Beth O'Connor (husband Bill pre-deceased), Stephen Dorsey (Susan), Frank Dorsey (Karen), and Matt Dorsey (fiancée Sarah); and her eight grandchildren, Jack O'Connor, Jim O'Connor, Meghan Dorsey, Mark Dorsey, Michael Dorsey, Alec Dorsey, Kaylyn Dorsey, and Grace Dorsey. Betty is also fondly remembered as "Grandma Betty" by Haileigh Van Buren and Aaron Van Buren, children of Sarah.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Francis E. Dorsey, Jr., to whom she was happily married for 58 years. She is also predeceased by her parents and her five siblings, John Koval, Paul Koval, Steve Koval, Mary Bogus, and Anna Koval. Betty was the daughter of immigrant parents from Slovakia, and she lost her father when she was very young. With the loss of her father, her beloved brothers were wonderful surrogate fathers to her.
Betty grew up with her mother and five siblings on a family farm in the Town of Saratoga, where she learned how to drive a tractor before she could drive a car. On the farm, she learned the value of hard work, self-reliance, and love for family. She passed all these values faithfully on to her children.
Betty was very involved in her community and was a Past President of the Saratoga Springs Board of Education, the Saratoga Hospital Guild, the Ladies of Charity Saratoga Vicariate, and the Saratoga County Women's Republican Club. Betty also proudly served as a New York Republican State Committeewoman.
At the family home on Underwood Drive, Betty spent many cherished hours with her family and her prized pug Winston. After her husband passed, Betty resided at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs. She received loving care from the staff there, and her family would like to thank them for their compassionate efforts on her behalf.
