Obituary

Stillwater, NY - Elizabeth N. Koval passed away at her home on September 29, 2022.  Betty was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1939 and raised in Porter Corners by her adoptive parents Cedric and Mary Weirman with her fraternal twin sister Helen and younger adopted brother Charles who have all predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her husband of 21 years, Stephen Valentine Koval, whom she joined on the family dairy farm when they married in 1965.  Survivors include her sons Stephen (Nancy) Koval, Christopher (Jennifer) Koval, Adam (Dawn) Koval and six grandchildren:  Seth Mattice, Macey, Avrie, Hannah, John, and Owen Koval.

Betty graduated from Saratoga Springs High School, Ellis Hospital, and Syracuse University. She taught practical nursing at BOCES for five years before working as a public health nurse and administrator for Saratoga County initiating the first Long Term Home Health Care Program in the county. When her boys were young, she ran a local 4-H club for the neighborhood kids and encouraged and supported her boys' youth sporting activities. After her retirement in 2002, Betty served for many years on the town board for the Town of Saratoga and was active in the Quaker Springs Methodist Church.

For many years during her professional life, Betty served on the Saratoga County Farm Bureau Board of Directors holding every office.  She received the John D. Hall Memorial Award in 1998, given to a farm community member each year in recognition of their contributions to Agriculture in the county and the state.  In 2009 she was awarded Ag Promoter of the year from the Saratoga County Agricultural Promotion Committee, a group she was instrumental in forming which for over 20 years held an annual farm tour showcasing local agriculture.

In her later years, Betty enjoyed mowing and beautifying the farm, observing the farming activities from her kitchen table, and delighted in watching her grandchildren grow up.
