IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth "Carlie"
Lindemann
September 9, 1930 – March 22, 2022
Saratoga Springs, NY – Elizabeth "Carlie" Lindemann died on March 22, 2022, after a brief illness. She was comfortable under Hospice and staff care at the Wesley Health Care Center and passed peacefully with family close by.
Carlie was born September 9, 1930, in New Rochelle, NY, to parents Everett Lionel and Helen Beyer Finch. She was in the high school class of 1947 at Vincentian Institute in Albany—and has continued to be active in its alumni group—and graduated from SUNY Albany in 1952 with a B. A. Cum Laude double major in English and Mathematics.
Among the first computer programmers, Carlie was employed by GE in the early 50s before computer languages and compilers were invented.
In 1952 Carlie married her childhood sweetheart, Ronald H. Lindemann. During his service in the United States Navy, they lived in Florida, Maine, Virginia, New Mexico, California, and Rota, Spain. Their only child Paul D. Lindemann was born in 1958.
Carlie undertook volunteer work everywhere she went, serving schools, churches, and scouting and doing extensive social work. In 1970 she was employed by the Diocese of Richmond, VA as secretary to the Office of Social Development.
After Paul's high school graduation in 1976, the family moved from Norfolk, VA, to Rock City Falls, NY. There Carlie and Ronnie operated Rock City Falls Antiques, which was next to The Mansion Antique Center owned by Carlie's mother Helen and aunt Caroline Beyer. She and Ronnie closed the business in 1992, just before Ronnie's death from cancer.
Carlie moved to Saratoga Springs in 1993. There she pursued more volunteer work and made a huge positive impression on everyone she met. She served in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, worked with the United Way, and while working with the Saratoga Senior Center she designed a logo, established a membership database, and edited the monthly newsletter.
Carlie originated a Prayer Line in 1997 for the Church of St. Peter, grew it to several hundred members, moved it to online and email-based in later years, and continued to help coordinate it through the end of last year.
In 2001 Carlie was chosen Senior Citizen of the Year by the Saratoga Springs Rotary Society for her volunteer work with the Senior Citizen Center of Saratoga Springs and the United Way. In 2007, the Albany Catholic Diocese honored her as a "Woman who has said Yes to God."
Carlie's survivors include sister Cynthia Finch of State College, PA; Carlie's son Paul and his wife Susan Lindemann of Derry, NH; and granddaughters Katherine Lindemann (Rochester, NH) and Kristin Lindemann (Pittsfield, NH). Despite Covid, Carlie was able to enjoy special times the past six months with her great-granddaughter Alex, age 5, and great-grandson Collin, age 20 months.
