Malta, NY - Elizabeth P. "Betty" Phillips of Pepperbush Place, formerly of Slingerlands, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 at her home. She was 94. Born July 13, 1915 in Cortland, NY she was the daughter of the late Philip and Pearl Smith. She was a graduate of Cortland High School, Cortland Conservatory of Music and the State College of Cortland, classes of 1937 and 1948. For five years she taught in Cincinatus, NY. In 1942 Betty came to the Slingerlands School District to teach third grade where she continued teaching until her retirement in 1977. She was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross for over twenty years and also volunteered at the Albany Institute of History and Art. Survivors include her husband, Robert Phillips of Malta; her two daughters, Linda Jeanne Phillips of Cambridge, MA, Barbara Lee Phillips of Malta and one sister, Mrs. Eleanor S. Elliott of Cortland, NY. There will be no calling hours or services.
