Port St. Lucie, FL - Ellen Butler, formerly of Saratoga Springs, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012 at her residence in Florida, with her loving family by her side. She was 77. Born on January 8,1935 in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Grace Fogarty. After raising eight children, Ellen worked for Saratoga County Mental Health at Friendship House on Church St. in Saratoga Springs, retiring in 1987. She was also very active in the Saratoga Hospital Guild, serving as president for one year. During her retirement, Ellen served on many committees and participated in the Homeowners Association in the park in Florida where she resided. She loved walking on the beach collecting seashells and enjoyed doing varies types of puzzles, crocheting, rug hooking and knitting. In addition to her parents, Ellen was predeceased by her son-in-law, Robert Topping. Survivors include her husband John "Ted" Butler; her eight children, Denis (Joyce Heede) Butler, Daniel Butler, Debra Topping, Dawn (Walter) Cassidy, Donna (Rick) Brayman, David (Peppy) Butler, Deidre (Ben) Eberle and Dean (LeAnn) Butler. She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Que) Fogarty; 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Monday, July 9, 2012 at St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave. by the Rev. Neil Draves-Arpaia. Burial will follow at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
