Saratoga Springs, NY - Ellen Curcio, beloved mother of Linda Woods and son-in-law Tony, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011. She died of complications from dementia. Born on February 26, 1924 in Utica, New York, Ellen was the only daughter of Henry and Alice Shoffstall Harper. During the Depression, she and her parents moved to Richfield Springs, N.Y. where she attended high school. At the onset of WWII, Ellen, worked at an arms factory outside of Utica assembling weapons for our troops overseas. She took great pride in contributing to the war effort. It was also in Richfield Springs where Ellen met and married Jack Curcio. Sadly, her husband died in a car accident just days before their fifth wedding anniversary, leaving her to raise her young daughter alone. She never remarried. In 1985, Ellen moved to Saratoga Springs to be close to "her kids," Linda and Tony. Her years spent in Saratoga Springs represented some of the happiest times of her life. In her 87 years on this earth, Ellen made many friends, enjoyed the times spent with her loved ones, including her "granddoggers" and lovely llamas. Her heart was warm and her spirit was kind. A private burial will be held later this month at Lakeside Cemetery in Richfield Springs. Ellen's family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care provided by the entire staff of Maplewood Manor. Memorial contributions can be made to Maplewood Manor / Awning Replacement Fund, 149 Ballston Ave., Ballston Spa, NY 12020. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J.
