Saratoga Springs, NY - Ellen Margot Hahnenberger passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was 88. Born on Nov. 1, 1924 in Konigsberg, Germany, Ellen was the daughter of the late Karl-Heinz and Herta Muller and the devoted wife for 63 years to Karl A. Hahnenberger who died in 2012. They emigrated to the United States of America in 1950 where they settled in New York to raise their family. Ellen was an exceptionally loving wife, mother and grandmother who nurtured her family with delicious home cooked meals and confectionary delights. Her knitted comforters wrapped her family in her loving warmth. Her amazing organizational skills made her a driving force in her family. She loved music, nature and working in her garden. All who met Ellen were charmed by her youthful and sunny outlook on life. She possessed a kind and gentle soul. Survivors include her sisters in Germany, Rosemarie (Egon) Casper and Christel Rieter; her daughters, Margret (Rich) Hickey of Clifton Park, NY and Karen (Roger) Elem of Wilton, NY; her grandchildren, Scott (Kristine) Hickey, Kevin Hickey, Erika Hickey and Reid (Lindsey) Elem and great grandchildren, Logan and Liam. There will be no calling hours as the family will be having a private memorial celebration of her life at a later date.
