Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Elliot Raymond Loeb passed away peacefully at home on June 4, 2022.  He was 95 years old and lived a great life.

Elliot was born on December 30, 1926, to the late Joseph Loeb and Gladys Waldman in Astoria, Queens.  He grew up with his siblings, Morton and Naomi, in Jamaica, Queens and attended Jamaica High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the military, joining the Navy during WWII as an aviation electronic technician working on the Identification Friend or Foe Project to detect enemy planes. He was stationed in Illinois, Michigan, and Texas and was adept at repairing the IFF machines. He also knit socks and scarves for soldiers stationed overseas. Elliot loved to tinker with tools and fix everything himself; he refused to quit until a job was successfully completed.

When his service ended in 1946, he was fortunate to attend Dartmouth College on the GI Bill.  Elliot was the consummate big man on campus—a fraternity brother, smart, witty and as handsome as Paul Newman. He graduated from the Tuck School of Business in 1949 and went on to earn a master's degree from Columbia University the next year. He was a dedicated alumnus of Dartmouth, attending many of his reunions, returning for football games, and more recently, visiting Tuck with his granddaughters on a college tour to see his class picture hanging in the hallowed halls.

Elliot was a CPA and worked for several companies as an accounting and finance professional, but his true passion was business. He was incredibly savvy and personable and won over everyone he worked with, even his competitors. He continued to work on his own business and use his archaic adding machine until the last few weeks of his life.

Elliot was a man of many talents and loved adventure and hobbies. He was a pilot of a single engine plane, captain of his various boats, deep sea and freshwater fisherman, skier, golfer, and custom furniture maker. He was the life of the party wherever he went.

Elliot is survived by the love of his life and wife of 32 years, Carol (Gladstone) Loeb, his children, Nancy and Clifford Loeb, son-in-law, Eugene DiDonato, and grandchildren, Renata and Gianina DiDonato.  He also leaves many dear relatives in the Loeb, Gladstone, Waldman, Randel, Little, and Weisberger families; close friends in New York and Jupiter, Florida; and of course, his pooch, Zinky, who will miss the food he "accidentally" dropped under the table when no one was looking.

A service to honor Elliot's life and burial with Military Honors will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, New York. Attendees should meet at the main gate to the cemetery at 12:15 pm.
