IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eric Gunnar
Lindau
November 15, 1926 – October 9, 2023
Saratoga Springs, NY- Eric Gunnar Lindau of Saratoga Springs, NY passed away peacefully at Wesley Nursing Home on October 9, 2023. The son of the late Bror August Lindau Sr. and Ina Lindquist, he was born on November 15, 1926, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Eric grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from William H. Hall High School in 1944. Upon graduating he joined the US Navy and was stationed on the USS Ray submarine as a Seaman First Class. He was awarded the American Theatre Medal as well as the Victory Medal, honorably discharged in June of 1946 and was proud to have served his country.
Eric first worked for Western Electric Company as a telephone lineman where, while putting in a new bank of phone lines, he met his future wife, Anna Rita Corsale in Saratoga Springs, NY who, at the time, was a telephone operator for the NY Telephone Company. He went on to become a draftsman working for General Electric Company in Schenectady and Waterford, NY, Wright Malta Corporation in Malta, NY, and finally as a consultant until his retirement at 62. He also worked for Saratoga Raceway for 25 years in the mutuals department. Eric continued part time work for McNeary Realty as a general jack-of-all trades for their real estate properties right up until his mid
80's when he then devoted himself to caring for his wife full time until her death in 2012.
Eric enjoyed golfing and he was proud of his tournament participations and subsequent trophies. He also purchased his first motorcycle at age 55 and became an avid enthusiast. He took many long rides throughout New York state with his daughter Diane, riding along in the two-up seat. He could also always be found lending his many trade skills to his local in-laws whenever or wherever he was needed. Family was always a top priority, and he relished being a role model for his grandson and going out to lunch and dinners with his great-granddaughter; this became a happy routine later in life and his greatest joy. Eric was also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.
Besides being predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Anna Corsale Lindau, and his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Eric Peter Lindau, his brother Bror August Lindau Jr., half-brother Herbert Lindau and nephew William B. Lindau.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Diane Geralyn Lindau, (son-in-law Jeffrey Esposito) of Moreau; grandson, Nicholas C. Michetti (daughter-in-law Elizabeth) and great-granddaughter Oona Pearl Michetti of Niskayuna; his brother, Richard Hans Lindau (sister-in-law Jacqueline Lindau); sisters-in-law, Barbara Holtmeyer Corsale and Barbara Zecca Corsale as well as several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
There will be no public calling hours and services will be private. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Eric's name to the American Heart Association , 440 New Karner Rd, Albany, NY 12205.
