IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eugene Robert
Coppola
August 26, 1942 – October 11, 2022
Saratoga Springs - Our dearly loved husband, father, and grandfather Eugene Robert Coppola, of Saratoga Springs, New York peacefully passed away on October 11th, 2022. He was born in New York City on August 26th, 1942 to the late Eugene and Mary (Iervolino) Coppola. Eugene married his loving wife of 54 years, Joan (Viscardi) Coppola on September 28th, 1968 in Brooklyn, New York.
Eugene attended Abraham Lincoln High School and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in electrical engineering. In 1970, he started his successful career with IBM in the Hudson Valley where he worked for over 20 years and retired as a senior engineer. After his retirement, Eugene and his wife relocated to Saratoga Springs.
Eugene enjoyed reminiscing and sharing stories with his family from his younger days in Brooklyn. He grew up in a great big, Italian family with his parents, siblings and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Eugene was a talented mechanic and worked on many of his friends' and siblings' automobiles. He was a gifted mathematician who was always willing to tutor friends and family. Sports were a big part of his life. Eugene was an avid New York Yankees and Jets fan. He served as a volunteer coach for Wappingers Little League Baseball and St. Mary's CYO Basketball teams for several years.
Eugene was deeply loved by his family and close friends. He was a kind, honest man who lived by example. Eugene would do anything for his wife, Joan, and his family, who he loved whole-heartedly. He had a quick wit and a gift for making people laugh, whether he was trying to or not. His eight grandchildren were the pride of his life. His expression would light up whenever he talked about them. He loved telling anyone who would listen about their accomplishments. He was happiest when he was surrounded by them. Eugene enjoyed countless holidays, birthday parties, graduations, sporting events, school plays, and pancake breakfasts. He was always their biggest fan.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Joan, children Andrea and Robert, son-in-law Dr. Gregory Kelly, and daughter-in-law Regina Coppola, his grandchildren Gregory, Caroline, Julia, Sophie, Anna and Isabelle Kelly and Patrick and Nicholas Coppola. He is also survived by his siblings Katherine Hrabachak, and Dr. John Coppola, sisters-in-law Diane Miglionico, Joan Viscardi, brother-in-law Dr. Anthony Viscardi, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
His family wishes to thank the many wonderful nurses, aides and staff at Schuyler Ridge Residential Health Care and Saratoga Hospital who helped care for him.
In lieu of flowers, his family kindly requests donations be made to the National MS Society in Eugene's name. He showed admirable strength and courage as he battled with multiple sclerosis for forty-two years.
