Saratoga Springs, NY - F. Katharine (Kay) Petersen, 87, passed away at home on February 2, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 3, 1921 in Longmont, Colorado, she was the daughter of the late Rolla and Mable (Smith) Scruby. Katharine graduated from Longmont High School and attended the University of Colorado. She was married to Maurice E. (Mike) Petersen on June 21, 1941. They moved to Schenectady, New York later in 1941. They also had lived in Connecticut, Tennessee, Gunnison,Colorado and most recently in Saratoga Springs. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Scruby in 1998. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Maurice Petersen; her children, Karen (Curt) Adkisson, Eric (Joyce) Petersen, Kristen (Tom) Louis, Kim (James) Lindsay, Lauris (Susan) Petersen, Bernt (Stephanie) Petersen, Kevin (Cathy) Petersen, Kathy (David) Stewart; twenty six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Katharine's primary interest was in her family. She enjoyed being outdoors in the natural world. Bird watching, gardening especially flowers and hiking were favorite activities. She was also involved in various Book groups and Garden Clubs. There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Farrell and Saratoga Hospice for their loving care of Katharine during the last months of her illness. The family would also like to thank the Gentle Home Health Care aides for their gentle care. Memorial donations may be made to a non- profit organization of one's choice.
