Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Fay "Dick" H. Dickens of Saratoga Springs, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, VT. He was 80. Born on June 21, 1931 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Maude Harrington Dickens and Amasa Dickens and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. The widower of Phyllis Huffmire Dickens who predeceased him in 1979, he was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War, following service from 1950 and honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in 1954. A former radar instructor at Eglin Air Force Base, he worked as an Electronic Technician for the F.A.A. in Stillwater NY. Fay had a love of sports and was instrumental in the formation of thePop Warner Football League in Saratoga Springs and coached many teams throughout the years. He also served as a president of the Saratoga Springs High School Booster Club. He leaves to mourn his four children; David Dickens of Rochester, NH, Deryl Loviza and her husband Leo of Saratoga Springs, Peter Dickens and his wife Mary Frances of Ballston Spa and Brian Dickens and his wife Laurel of Manchester CT; one sister, Lucinda (Cindy) Lajeunesse and her husband Eugene of Palm Coast FL; six grandchildren; Kristin Loviza of Saratoga Springs, Geoffrey Loviza and wife Vanessa of Saugerties, NY, Leah Loviza Patti and husband Phil and Sara Loviza, all of Buffalo, NY, Tyler and Brenna Dickens of Manchester, CT; two great-grandchildren, Leo and Emily Loviza, three nieces and one nephew. Relatives and friends may call from 10 to 11am Wednesday at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway 584-5373. Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Wednesday at the funeral home, by the Rev'd Canon Thomas T. Parke, rector of Bethesda Episcopal Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Ave. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of theVermont Veterans Home in Benningtonfor their loving care of Freddie these past years and in appreciation, would request that memorials be made in his name to the Vermont Veterans Home, 325 North Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
