Gloversville, NY- Florence Marie (Grant) Romaine, 86, of Reidel Rd., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Born in Gloversville, NY on September 16, 1937, she was the daughter of the late, Glen and Margaret (Riley) Grant.
On October 15, 1955, Florence married the love of her life, Walter H. Romaine while he was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. They would have been married of 69 years in October. Shortly after Walt returned from deployment in Okinawa, Flo gave birth to their only daughter, Zoe Ann (Romaine) Thompson.
Walt and Flo were blessed to be able to spend many years working side by side. Starting in the local shoe factory, leather mills and eventually retiring from Bay Meadows Golf Course in Queensbury, NY after 21 years.
Florence had a very active role in her grandchildren and great grandchildren's lives. She could be found at every sporting event, chorus concert or anything involving her family. Flo will be remembered for her generosity and selflessness. She gave so much to others with no expectations of receiving anything in return. Family gatherings were full of wonderful food and deserts. During holiday's, she would make sure that everyone had their favorite pie or desert showcasing her desire to make everyone feel special. Florence was a woman of faith. Throughout the years she attended Perth Bible Church. She was an active member in the church choir and an Olympians youth group leader.
In addition to her parents, Florence is predeceased by her sisters, Margaret LaVada and Dawn Rava.
Survivors include her husband, Walter H. Romaine; her daughter, Zoe Ann (Romaine) Thompson and her husband, David. She was affectionately known as "Mema" to her grandchildren, David (Lindsay), Zachary, Jeremiah (Brittani) and Christopher (Sarah) and her great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Zachary, Jude, Adeline, Jeremiah Jr. and Vada Florence. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia Best and Caroline Snell; as well as several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday August 25, 2024 from 2-4 PM followed by a funeral home service at 4 PM at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, 111 County Rd 106, Johnstown, NY 12095. Burial will be held privately at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
