Gansevoort, NY - Francis X. Scanlon, Jr. of Evergreen Drive, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife Nancy and sons Brenden and Bryan at his side Tuesday August 17, 2010 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 61. Born on March 15, 1949 in New York City he was the eldest son of the late Francis X. and Mary Sullivan Scanlon Sr. of Demarest, New Jersey. Francis served in the United States Army from August 13, 1970 to March 14, 1972, receiving the National Defense Service Medal. Following his military career, Francis attended the University of Maryland where he earned a masters degree in public administration. His professional career initially focused on sales and purchasing, concentrating on health care in his later years. In addition to his parents, Francis was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Ellen and John Scanlon. Survivors in addition to his wife and two sons include two sisters; Kathleen Beaury and her husband Jack and Nancy Sutherland and her husband Kenny, one granddaughter; Adriana Grace Scanlon, who was one of the great joys of his life and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8pm Thursday August 19, 2010 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway(584-5373), Saratoga Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Friday August 20 in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway by Rev. Matthew B. Wetsel. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville. Memorials may be made in his name to the charity of one's choice.
