Albany, NY – Frank D. Deskovic died Wednesday February 28, 2018 at the Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center. He was 80.
Born September 18, 1937 in Astoria, NY, he was the son of the late Frank and Betty Hans Deskovic. Frank enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 18 and served as an aircraft mechanic for 8 years, working on many aircrafts, one in particular, the C-124 Globe Master. He loved his time in the Air Force as it gave him the opportunity to see the world as he was stationed in Korea, Japan and Hawaii. After his honorable discharge, Frank worked as a delivery man for Coca Cola until he began working as an aviation engine mechanic for Pan Am in New York City. Frank then owned and operated his own flooring business in Warwick, NY. Not only was he a master carpet installer, he designed carpets to be hung on walls and was a marble and granite craftsman.
Frank had many other talents and hobbies. In his early years, as a talented artist, he entered a drawing contest called "Draw Me Winky", winning it and then having an opportunity to work for Walt Disney as a cartoon artist, which he declined. He was also asked to join Hallmark as an artist. He was a world traveler, built model ships, loved to read and share stories with family and friends, listen to classical music and watch baseball, especially those Yankees. His cooking and baking talents would fill the hallways of his apartment building with the aroma of his latest creation in the kitchen, usually followed by a knock on the door from a neighboring friend, hoping for an invite in to share in a good old fashioned home cooked meal, fellowship and the occasional cocktail. His "own" touch that he added to everything he cooked was second to none. Frank loved to share free giveaways with everyone he knew.
His last days were spent in the VA Medical Center, being cared for by the silver team. He loved all of you and couldn't say enough nice things about you. We cannot remember all of your names but you all held a special place in his heart. You were all so kind and we would like to thank you for how well you cared Frank.
Frank is survived by his siblings; Janet Fortier and her husband Raymond, Lorraine Scorzelli and her husband Richard, Linda McGarr, all of Cobleskill, NY, Dennis Deskovic and his wife Christine of Hammonton, NJ, Marlene Castanza of Reno, NV; five nieces, twelve nephews and three great-nephews.
