Saratoga Springs, NY - Frank N. Toffoli, 92, passed away on February 20, 2009. Born on January 5, 1917, in Ormelle, Italy, he arrived in the United States at the age of four. A veteran of the Army Air Corps in WWII, he and his beloved wife of 65 years, Marjorie (Van Essendelft), made their home first in Bay Shore, NY and later in Lakeland, FL. An auto-body repairman by trade, his hobbies included taxidermy, carpentry, masonry, oil painting, and carving. He loved spending hours in his gardens, and he believed one is closer to God in a garden than anywhere else on earth. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted son, Jon (Christine) Hoek of Wilton, NY; a sister, Annette of Bridgeport, CT; five loving grandchildren: Matthew Hoek, Roxanne Hoek, James Thornton, Cathleen Wagner, and Rebecca Thornton; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by two infant daughters, Marsha and Beverly; a son, John Robert; and a daughter, Joan (Hoek) Thornton. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, February 28 at the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, Fifth Avenue and Henning Road, at 1:00 p.m. The family extends warm thanks to the staff of Prestwick Chase, Saratoga Hospital, and Wesley Springs-3 for their special care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Wesley Health Care Center, 131 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
