Saratoga Springs, NY - Fred K. Nelson passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 at The Orchard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granville, NY, surrounded by his loving daughters and families. He was 87. Born on Nov. 5, 1927 in Jamaica, Queens, NY he was the son of Swedish immigrants, the late Fred and Korine (Anderson) Nelson. Fred worked for the New York Racing Association as a Pinkerton at Belmont Race Track and Saratoga Springs. He also worked for the Great Neck Department of Public Works for over 35 years and always demonstrated an incredible work ethic. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by a daughter Julianne Poore in 2008. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Patricia Mary (Keaveny) Nelson; twin daughters Jeannine Nelson Kirkpatrick and Korine Nelson as well as Patricia Mary Kezer and Alexandria Krstine Nelson; grandchildren Nelson P. Laffey, Dylan Poore, Sean Poore, JuliaAnn Kezer, Fred Kezer; great-grandson 4th generation Mason Kitti Pat Laffey and daughter-in-law Rungsirin Mae May Laffey; sister Ann Kristen Kasner; nephews Joey and Richard Kasner, niece Krissy Kasner; son-in-laws, Arthur Poore, Andy Kezer and George Kirkpatrick. Our father enjoyed nice cars, good food, a glass of wine, sports, a good joke, a nice landscape yard, family vacations and most of all his wonderful life with his family. At Fred's request there will be a private burial at the Gerald B. H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY at the convenience of the family. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Orchard Nursing Home for their compassion and care throughout our father's stay.
