Wilton, NY - Gabrielle Ruelos Cannistraci passed away Sunday (Feb. 8, 2009) at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. She was 11. Born on March 14, 1997 in Glens Falls, NY, she is the daughter of Joseph S. and Michelle Ruelos Cannistraci. Gabrielle was a sixth grade student and a member of the chorus at Maple Avenue School in Saratoga Springs. She was a gifted student, enjoyed reading, playing and listening to music, taking piano lessons, playing the recorder and singing. Gabrielle loved arts and crafts, especially making origami. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was always kind and gentle, and loved being a big sister. In addition to her parents, survivors include her maternal grandparents, Emilio and Cecilia Ruelos, MD, paternal grandparents, Joseph and Ida Cannistraci; a younger brother, Lucas; two aunts, Kristine and Joanne Ruelos; two uncles, Ben and David Cannistraci; her great-aunt, Luz Ruelos and many family members and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Saturday (Feb. 14, 2009) in St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, 231 Lake Avenue by the Rev. Paul J. Borowski, C.Ss.R., pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gabrielle's name to the National Marfan Foundation, 22 Manhasset Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050. The family would like to extend thanks to the doctors and medical staff at Albany Medical Center Hospital Intensive Care Unit, the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital and to all the doctors, therapists, nurses, aides and teachers who have helped care for Gabrielle.
