George Lawrence Greene of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Smoke Rise, Kinnelon, N.J. and Saratoga Springs, N.Y. passed away July 16, 2020.
George was born in Paterson, New Jersey on August 20, 1932 to Andrew and Margaret (Ryan) Greene. Following graduation from St. Joseph's Grammar and High School in Paterson, George joined the United States Air Force. He served as Group Staff Legal Sergeant at K-2 Airbase in Taegu, Korea and later ended his military career as Assistant to Brigadier General J.W. McCauley. After the Airforce, George attended night school at Seton Hall University, under the G.I. Bill and earned a degree in Accounting, Cum Laude. He was the proud recipient of the Seton Hall Gold Medal, having achieved the highest G.P.A in Accounting.
George had a 32-year career with ITT Corporation. Starting as a clerk at ITT's Nutley, N.J. plant, he retired in 1987 from his role at ITT Headquarters, New York as Director of Personnel Administration, ITT.
George is predeceased by his parents Andrew and Margaret, his brother Gerald and daughter-in-law Grace. He is survived by Joan, his wife of fifty years; two sons: Joseph Greene and George (Linda) Greene; grandchildren: Lindsey Redman (Kurt), Kayte Heller (Corey) and Laura Greene; three great-grandchildren: Parker, Gracie and Hunter; Joan's children: Susan (Paul) Brooks, Steve (Dalene) Maier and Allison (Wolfgang) Bauriedel; grandchildren: Travis (Nicole), Carissa (Alex), Colleen (Steven), Erik, Hannah, Julia and Max; great-grandchild: Amelia Joan; George's siblings: Joseph A. Greene (Marilyn), Andrew (Mickey) Greene (Kathy); Patricia Stranzl and Mary Ellen Wilson (Jim).
Joan and George had been members of Church of the Redeemer in Sarasota Fl. and (summer) members at Bethesda Episcopal Church in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
In fulfillment of George's request, he will be laid to rest at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Friday July 24, 2020.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
