IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Edward
Keehan
March 17, 1926 – October 10, 2018
Londonderry, NH- After a long period of declining health, George Edward Keehan has been called to rest alongside his beloved wife on October 10, 2018. He is predeceased by Rose (Comfort) Keehan whom he cared for for many years unselfishly. He was born and raised in Saratoga Springs, NY to the late Edward T. and Della Traver Keehan on March 17, 1926. The last 6 years he moved to be closer to family in Londonderry, NH. He had been taking care of his needs along with the grooming of his yard and hedges which he took great pride in.
He attended the local schools until just into high school when he had to quit to take on the responsibility of supporting his grandmother and family. He joined the Army active service on August 2, 1944. He served in the European Theater of Operations with 42nd Division as a rifleman in combat and then after combat he became a military policeman enforcing military laws and regulations, controlling traffic and motor patrol of occupied Austria. He was honorably discharged on July 9, 1946.
He worked at the Van Raalte Company where he met his love, Rose. He stayed there as it transitioned to employee owned Saratoga Knitting Mill. Before full retirement he worked at Katzenbach & Warren Inc, Waterford, NY, learning a new trade of printing wallpaper. At both jobs he was always hands on working, repairing machinery, or training.
He was an accomplished bowler in those younger years. He always kept his "corner lot" impeccably manicured and got many compliments from his neighbors. He was also always available for friends and family to lend a hand where needed. He had traveled to Disney World more than once with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even on one trip out-walking them all. He was a yearly member of the Gurtler Brothers Post #420 of Saratoga Springs even after he moved to New Hampshire.
His family ties reach out to E. Syracuse to the Albros and the Tolhursts, as well as here with the Lloyds, the Travers, and the Crandalls. Along with his parents and wife, George is predeceased by siblings of Rose and Brother Edward Keehan of Ballston Spa, NY.
He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Keehan Martin and her husband Richard Martin; his grandchildren, Erica (Martin) Maguire and spouse James Maguire, Christopher Edward Martin and spouse Sara (Bishop) Martin; and his great-grandchildren Grace Maguire, Landon Martin, Brody Martin, Evan Martin; his brothers-in-law from Saratoga Springs are Sylvester Comfort and Richard Comfort; his sister-in-law from Pennsylvania is Connie (Comfort) Morrison. There are many other cousins, nieces and nephews in the family line also.
What can we say other than he was loved very much and will be missed by all. He loved his family and until the day he passed he wanted to be involved in whatever he could but never wanted to be a burden.
Relatives and friends may call from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018 at the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373) with a funeral service to immediately follow. Burial with military honors will be at Greenridge Cemetery after the service.
