Saratoga Springs George H. Palmateer, Sr., life long Saratoga resident, died peacefully Tuesday, August 19, 2008 after a courageous battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was 67. Born on August 31, 1940 in Saratoga Springs, he is the son of the late Sheridan and Anna Suttles Palmateer. George was a devoted truck driver for over 40 years, most recently employed with Springer Waste for 12 years. He loved NASCAR, Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver, bingo, fishing and especially going on his yearly trip to the casino in Atlantic City. He enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Ramsey and Clarisa Ramsey, one brother, Sherman Palmateer and a daughter-in-law, Anne Hastings. George is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sandra Blakesley Palmateer, and is the beloved father of seven cherished sons; John (Willa Bertrand) Rowland of Greenfield, Tim(Kelly) Ramsey of Saratoga Springs, Harold(Debra) Thomas of Ballston Spa, Dale Palmateer of Greenfield Center, George(Darlene) Palmateer Jr. of Saratoga Springs, Andrew(Tracey) Palmateer of Greenfield, Michael(Bobbie-Jo)Palmateer of Ballston Spa and two daughters, Sandra(Michael Bushey) Sanders of Porter Corners and Dorothy(William) Preece of Saratoga Springs, his siblings; Nick Palmateer and Edith Austin of Saratoga Springs, Lucy Crandall of Ballston Spa, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his son-in-law, Robert Sanders. Relatives and friends may call from 9-11am on Friday, August 22 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). A funeral service will follow at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Weibel Avenue.
