Saratoga Springs - George A. Van Voorst Jr., 67, died peacefully at his home on January 22, 2015 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 5, 1947 in Saratoga Springs, NY he was the son of the late George A. and Dorothy Hughes Van Voorst and was a lifelong Saratogian. George proudly served in the US Army, was stationed in Dachau, Germany, returning home in 1969. He worked hard his entire life to provide for his wife and family, retiring in 2011. George enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending his free time in nature. He was an avid bird watcher and could identify the many different birds that visited his numerous feeders & baths. His greatest joy was his family and friends. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law Elfriede and Simon Huber; brother-in-law Klaus Richter and best friend and cousin Joseph Lambert Jr. Survivors include the love of his life, his wife Heidi (Huber) Van Voorst; brother James Van Voorst and his wife Barbara of Clifton Park NY; daughter Deacon Bianka Krueger and her husband Dean of Saratoga Springs NY; son Robert Van Voorst and Cindy Schell of Schenectady NY; granddaughter Courtney Krueger and her fiancé Timothy Grande of Savannah GA; grandson Corporal Evan Krueger USMC; brother-in-law Heinrich Huber and his wife Irene and sister-in-law Anni Richter, all of Dachau, Germany as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his favorite child, his dog, Molly. Funeral services will be held at 10am,Wednesday January 28, 2015 St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 149 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY, followed by a receiving line at the church. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway (584-5373). The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Operation Adopt a Soldier, noting in memory of George A. Van Voorst.
