Ballston Spa, NY- Gerald R. Faber, 86, expired on April 8, 2026 in his home in Ballston Spa. Gerald had been on hospice with congestive heart failure.
Gerald was born on January 25, 1940. He grew up in Queens, New York. His parents were Gerald Coyne Faber and Anna Koster Faber. He was the youngest in the family of 5 boys.
He was appointed to attend Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy. After sailing around the world, he graduated in 1962 and returned home to marry his High School sweetheart, Barbara A. Duckfield. The wedding was on April 27, 1963. A year later on May 29, 1964 they had their first child, Donna Faber-Soukey. Two additional children would follow in the 70s; Jennifer L. Faber-Gerling and Jerry Alan Faber.
Gerald was an officer of the Navy upon graduation and was employed locally by the U.S. Government. He was charged with training nuclear officers and enlisted sailors to operate the Navy’s nuclear powered submarines at the Kesselring Knolls Aromic Powe Plant (G.E.).
Gerald was an avid wood carver after his retirement. He helped to restore a carousel in the Adirondacks. The traditional ride figures were replaced with carved Adirondack animals. His full sized carved animals are still enjoyed by children today.
Gerald is survived by his brother Donald Faber, 92 from Sarasota, Florida and his three children: Donna, Jenn and Jerry. He also has 5 grandchildren: Adison Propst, Jaxon Gerling, and triplets Paige, Madison and Molly Gering.
Along with his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his wife Barbara.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10am to 12pm, on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Followed by a funeral home service at 12pm.
Interment will follow at the Ballston Spa Village Cemetery.
