IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gerald P.
Hennigan
May 8, 1933 – December 12, 2021
Saratoga Springs, NY - Gerald P. Hennigan passed peacefully on December 12 th surrounded by family. Jerry was born on May 8, 1933, in Scranton, PA. He was the son of the late Gerald John Hennigan and Ethel Halloran Hennigan. He was predeceased by his wife Jean Barone Hennigan in 2013, and siblings Paul, Joseph, Catherine, Robert, Dorothy, Thomas, and James. He is survived by a sister Ann Mancuso; his children Linda (Dave) Papa, Karen (Jon) Springer, and Jerry (Suzanne) Hennigan; grandchildren Ashley (Andrew) Reubens, David Papa (Mary Ellen DiCocco), Jackie Papa (Steve Tychostup), Cameron Springer (Anya Burzynski), Alicia Springer, Trevor Hennigan, and Taylor Hennigan; and great-grandchildren Colin, Sawyer, Olivia, and Evelyn.
Jerry served in the US Army and Air Force for twenty-one years. His military duty took him across the United States from Alaska to Mississippi, and overseas including stations in Germany, Greenland, and the Philippines. After being stationed at the radar station in Bemis Heights (Saratoga), Jean and Jerry decided to make Saratoga Springs their family hometown. After Jerry's military career, he owned several commercial properties in the area.
Jerry left us with memories of his unconditional love, his strong sense of right and wrong, his perfect examples of tolerance, kindness, and the value of hard work and doing one's best. When work had to be done on his children's homes, he was always there to help. He was quiet in his approach but not without opinions and conviction. He could say more with less words than most. Most importantly, he was nice to everyone. He never expressed unkind words. He loved to sing cherished, fun-loving songs to his grandchildren and great grandchildren ("love you a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck"). Jerry's pursuit of coffee and sweets was legendary in the family.
Jerry's philosophy was to choose happiness and be kind. He left a trail of people who were glad to know him and a family that will miss him tremendously.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Saratoga Senior Center for giving Jerry purpose after Jerry's wife passed, and to the compassionate staff at The Wesley Community.
