Obituary

Malta, NY - Gerald Von Stetina, age 79 died December 4th, 2023 at his home in Malta with family around him. Gerry was a man who took great pride in his work. He cared deeply about others and their needs and found great joy in the accomplishments of his family.

Gerry was the middle child of the late Rudolph and Marie Von Stetina. He was raised in Scotia and graduated from Scotia- Glenville High School and went on to attend Hudson Valley Community College. He served in the Air National Guard out of Scotia. True happiness came for him when he married his best friend and soulmate, Margaret Von Stetina, on October 17th, 1970. They loved each other deeply and built a life and family together. They had a home with open doors to welcome anyone who came to visit. After working a few jobs he thoroughly enjoyed, he found his second home and a work life family while at Metroland Tire (that later became Adirondack Tire) until his retirement.

Gerry's greatest love was his family and he took great delight in being "Papa". He was always quick to lend a helping hand when needed and was certain to follow along in his families, friends and even acquaintances time of need and do whatever might be needed.  Gerry loved watching and feeding the birds. He was a charmer of animals. Rabbits would come right to his door and tap it looking for a treat. No worries if you were uncertain what tires you had on your car or if you needed new ones, he could just look at them and tell you what kind they were, the size and if they needed to be replaced. Rarely would he go anywhere without running into someone he had met previously somewhere, sometime and still knew their name.  He was always happy to say hello. He loved being on the beach with his wife or enjoyed a rest on a float in his pool.

Along with his parents, Gerry is predeceased by his wife Margaret Von Stetina and his son Robert Joseph Von Stetina.

Gerry is survived by his daughter Lisa England, son-in law Ryan England and two grandchildren Gabriella and Evan England as well as his two brothers Alan and Ronald Von Stetina, his sister in law, his niece and three nephews. Gerry was blessed to be the Godfather to several as well.
