Saratoga Springs, NY - Gertrude (Marks) Isaacson, 92, died Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Saratoga Center, 149 Ballston Avenue, Ballston Spa, NY.
Born February 6, 1925 in Belman, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Adeline (Kessler) Marks. Gertrude worked at Northrup Grumman on Long Island during World War II as a "Rosie the Riveter"
A large part of Gertrude's life was spent in the care of her children; painting with oils or water colors or sketching; teaching sewing at the Saratoga Springs Continuing Education program and volunteering at the Canfield Casino Museum cleaning and mending the period clothing as well as dressing the mannequins. During her retirement years she volunteered at the Penn Yan Nursing Home and enjoyed picking up dolls at various flea markets or garage sales. Gertrude would clean the dolls, either repair or make new clothes for the dolls and then give the dolls to any child in need. She also enjoyed assisting her daughter Carolyn and son-in-law Jason with their Accounting business in Connecticut.
In addition to her parents, Gertrude is predeceased by her husband of 69 years Aaron Isaacson; her sisters Adeline Martinsen of Smithtown, NY and Grace Taylor of Beeville,Texas; her daughter Katherine Isaascon and granddaughter Mary Berrigan.
Survivors include her brother Robert (June) Marks of Centereach, Long Island; son Aaron (Cindy) Isaacson of Saratoga Springs, daughters Carolyn (Jason) Camassar of Durham, Connecticut, Lynda (Frank) Rafalik of Greenfield Center and Patsy (Joe) Berrigan of Saratoga Springs; their heart daughter Susan (Larry) Hahn of Saratoga Springs, 8 grandchildren: JP Berrigan, Buddy Berrigan, Jacob (Jenn) Berrigan, Kasandra (Jessie) Carda, Aaron Jacob (Christina) Isaacson, Alysa Isaacson, Joel Camassar (Roger Engle), Caz Rafalik and 6 great-grandchildren.
There will be no public calling hours.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1pm Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William J Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373).
