Saratoga Springs, NY - Gladys Alberta(Hake) Nelson of Wesley Health Care Center went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008. She was 93. Gladys was born on Dec. 11, 1914 in Harrisburg, PA. She graduated from Jamestown, NY high school and married the late Harold Marius Olsen in Jamestown. They moved many times around the United States including California, Kentucky, Florida and South Carolina. Gladys loved to work and volunteer at Montessori Nursery Schools. She tried to be an encourager to all people. In her senior years she read to the blind on the radio in Jamestown. In 1991 Gladys settled in Saratoga Springs and sang with the Senior Chorus while she resided at Stonequist in Saratoga and volunteered at the Visitors Center on Broadway. Her hobbies included playing the piano, reading and eating out at local restaurants. Recently she had been a resident at Wesley Health Care Center where she received excellent care and made many friends. Gladys had a wonderful sense of humor and appreciation for life. In addition to her first husband Harold, she is predeceased by her second husband Paul Nelson, her sister Dorothy Bayliss; her brother William Hake and her oldest son David W. Olsen, Sr. Survivors include her daughter Sue Olsen of Pittsford, NY; her son Gregory Olsen of Aurora, CO; loving son-in-law and daughters-in-law; three granddaughters, Manya Eldridge of Blairsville, GA, Kathleen Olsen Larmon of Greenfield, NY and Elisabeth Morse of Pensacola, FL; a grandson David Olsen, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. There will be no memorial service or calling hours. The family would like to extend compliments and gratitude to the wonderful staff of Wesley Nursing Home for Gladys' tender care.
