Saratoga Springs, NY - Grace H. Luciano of Beekman Street, owner and operator of Scudder's Sandwich Shop, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012. Born June 10, 1921on Beekman St., Grace operated Scudder's Sandwich Shop started by her father in the 1920's as a butcher shop/ grocery store. She knew her customers by name and how they wanted their sandwiches. Grace continued her father's precedent to give food to all who couldn't pay. She loved cooking and baking as much as she loved her family. She was well known for her Italian (Aunt Gracie's) cookies. She baked thousands of cookies for weddings, showers, anniversaries, graduations and birthdays of family and friends. Grace was a communicant of the Church of St. Peter and a Charter Member of the Principessa Elena Women's Society. She was a Republican Election Inspector at District #11 for over 20 years. Grace is predeceased by her father, Giuseppe Scuderi ("Joe Scudder"); mother, Margaret Sess; husbands, Anthony Meiras and Michael Luciano, a WW I Navy Submarine Veteran and WW II Army Pharmacist, who then became the druggist at Leggett's Drug Store at 408 Broadway; sisters, Francis (Anthony) Scirocco, Jean (Ralph)Smaldone, Louse (Alphonse) Ezzo; niece, Marlene (George) Gasser, and nephew, Joseph Ezzo. Survivors include her nephews, Anthony Scirocco Jr. and Frank Scirocco; great nephews and nieces, Michael Gasser, Kimberly Anderson, Anthony Scirocco III, Mark Scirocco, Zackary Scirocco and Alexis Scirocco, all of whom Aunt Grace helped raise. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway by the Rev. Neil Draves-Arpaia.
