Saratoga Springs, NY - Hans P. Henriksen, who loved life, music, dance, his friends and his family, passed away on March 14, 2023, just nine days before of his 91st birthday.
Hans was born to Karen Margrethe and Jens Theodor Henriksen in Lindknud, Denmark. In 1951, at the age of 19, Hans decided to move to the United States and settled in New York City. Although formally trained as a tailor in Denmark, upon his arrival in the states, Hans began a life-long career as a professional waiter at The Mayflower in Cape Cod, Scandia in Los Angeles and Bardelli's in San Francisco before settling in New York City at Luchow's German Restaurant until it closed in 1985 . Luchow's and its surrounding neighborhood was the heart of the musical theatrical, literary and political life of New York ( "Through the doors of Luchow's pass all the famous people of the world.") . For the remaining thirteen years of his career Hans worked at the Marriott in Times Square until he retired in 1998.
On May 10, 1980, Hans married May-Britt Witte, mother of Stephanie and Cassandra. Hans and May-Britt initially settled in New York City before moving out to Bay Shore on Long Island where they lived until May-Britt's death 1997. Following her death, Hans retired and moved to Saratoga Springs.
Hans lived a full and colorful life. Hans loved his time with family and friends, especially holiday celebrations. Given his love for music and singing, Hans joined the Battenkill Chorale, an 85 member chorus from six counties in New York and Vermont presenting exciting performances of a wide and varied repertory of choral music. Hans also loved to tend to the flowers in the yard, dance and was an active member of the Danish Brotherhood, Lodge 183.
