Harold F. Aseltine died Thursday, January 31, 2013 in Saratoga Springs. He was born in Williston, Vermont on September 25, 1926, the son of Kenneth and Grace Aseltine. He attended Burlington High School and the University of Vermont, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1950. He served in the Navy for 19 months at the end of World War II. He worked at General Electric in Schenectady for four years, then attended the University of Michigan and received an M.A. in math education. Harold married Joan Ross in Saegertown, Pennsylvania on July 30, 1955. They began their family life in Saginaw, Michigan, where they both taught secondary math, and where their first son, Steven, was born. In 1957 they moved to Scotia, New York. Harold taught math in the Schenectady public school system - at Van Corlaer Jr. High and Linton High School - for 27 years. He was an adjunct math teacher at Schenectady County Community College from 1984 to 2001. He is survived by his wife Joan and their three sons: Steven of Los Angeles; Mark and Patti of Philadelphia; and Peter, his wife Sheila, and Harold's granddaughters, Kate and Laura, of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by two sisters, Betty and Ruth Aseltine, of South Burlington, Vermont, and by several nieces and nephews. Two brothers predeceased him: Robert in 1965 and James in 2008. Harold will be cremated and, in accordance with his wishes, services will be private.
