Halfmoon, NY - It is with great sadness to inform everyone that Ms. Hattie Steele, age 71, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013. Hattie lived a full and experienced life. She lived at the Rome and Wilton Developmental Centers and several family care homes before she began living within the Saratoga Bridges Community in 1987. She lived in the Mechanicville home, Loughberry Road, Malta Ave. and then finally at Birchwood Drive. Her vocational and educational experiences included involvement at Alpha Industries Workshop, Alpha II, Without Walls and Malta II Day Habs as well as Clifton Park Day Hab. She took her work and education seriously and with great vigor. Hattie was a very strong willed, feisty woman who made her wants and needs known to all. She loved to dance and exercise as well as do latch hooking, knitting and crafts. She loved gardening, Chuck Norris movies and musicals. She enjoyed gardening, Native American culture, country music and Bingo. Hattie was very confident in her physical and artistic abilities. She weight lifted in her younger years and would tell people how strong she was and was often seen flexing her muscles to prove her point. Hattie expressed her creative side through dance. She would often dance like no one was watching..... Hattie fulfilled 2 of her life's dreams by going to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville Tennessee and swimming with the Dolphins at Sea World in Orlando, Florida. She took an additional trip to Florida to go to Disney- shopping was her main interest then- to the point that the group almost missed the tram to the hotel!
