Obituary

Helen S. (Turnbull) Kittell Boca Raton, FL. - Helen S. (Turnbull) Kittell, formerly of Clifton Park and Stillwater, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Hospice of Palm Beach County, Delray Beach, FL, after a brief illness. She was 83. Born on April 17, 1925 in Schenectady, NY, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Gertrude (Siegel) Turnbull. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Harold C. Kittell who passed away March 31, 2003 in Boca Raton, FL and her sister, Ruth (Turnbull) Owen. Helen was a graduate of Draper High School in Schenectady. She worked as a secretary at I.G.E., the International division of General Electric until marrying her husband and moving to his familys farm. For 45 years, Helen, her husband, and later their children, worked side by side running the farm, which was to become a well-known landmark on Vischer Ferry Road in Clifton Park. In 1986, she and her husband retired and moved to Stillwater, NY and wintered at their home in Palm Royal, Boca Raton, FL. Helen was a 4-H leader and member of the Mohawk Valley, Pomona, and Greenfield Center Granges. She worked as a volunteer with the Stillwater Historical Society, where she dedicated her time as a hostess at the restored Stillwater Blockhouse. Helen was an active member of the Christ Community Reformed Church in Clifton Park and later, the Grace Baptist Church in Boca Raton. In 2005, she made her permanent home in Florida where she enjoyed spending much of the year poolside with her many dear friends. She also enjoyed playing bingo, dominoes and making the garage sale circuit. In the summer, Helen loved to come back to NY to spend time with her family and attend the Saratoga County Fair, where she worked in the Seniors booth. Every January Helen would attend her son's rodeo and team-roping events and also spend time at his winter vet clinic in Georgia. She loved her many friends and was especially proud of her wonderful family. Helen will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her son, Dr. John C. (Mindy) Kittell of Cambridge; her daughter, Jean H. (Thomas) Tucker of Halfmoon; grand-daughters, Dr. Heather (Tim) Alden, and Shayna (Brian) Blanchette, both of Cambridge; grandson Randy Tucker of Halfmoon; great granddaughter, Shelby Blanchette and great grandsons, John Alden and Kade Blanchette, all of Cambridge; niece, Cynthia Owen of Rock City Falls and great-niece, Lynn Dunlavey of Hadley. Relatives and friends may call from 9am to 10:45am on Saturday, March 21, 2009 in the chapel of the Christ Community Reformed Church, 1010 Route 146, Clifton Park, NY 12065. A funeral service will be held at 11am in the church, The Rev. Dr. Johan Bosman officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Scotia, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Community Reformed Church or The Saratoga County Agricultural Society, 162 Prospect St., Ballston Spa, NY 12020.
