Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Hermina Clemente died early Sunday morning December 18, 2016 at the age of 74.  She was called to God in the comfort of her home, in the presence of family.

Born Hermina Hendrina Johanna Bresser on January 27th, 1942 in the small town of Silvolde, Netherlands, the oldest of three girls.  Upon turning 21, she departed on a Holland America Lines boat from Rotterdam bound for the United States.  She met and married a young engineer and Navy Officer named Carmine Clemente and was given four children.

Hermina was a devoted mother and wife; she took pride in making the home a place of nurturing, toughness, and intellectual and cultural growth.  She was equally as proud of her European roots as she was her adopted homeland of the U.S.  She studied botany at SUNY Cobleskill, enjoyed gardening, the arts, philosophy, classical music, being a hockey mom, dogs, sewing, crafts, and most of all she enjoyed the expression of her Faith, and to share the rich traditions with family and community in a profound and loving way.  The importance of love and virtue and their illuminating effects were her life's study.

Her volunteer work is too replete to list here, but included running thrift and book shops at both St. Peter's Hospital in Albany and later on at the Shrine of the North American Martyrs in Hudson Falls, NY. Hermina was a devout Catholic, lover of the Latin Rite and diligently attended Tridentine mass, in the extraordinary form.

She is survived by her four children; John-Willem Angelo  (Elizabeth) Clemente, Lucas Vittorio  (Jennifer) Clemente, Peter Giuseppe Clemente, and Emma Luisa (Joe) Berkley, and her grandchildren, for whom her love was abounding;  John, Isabella, Violet, Bailey, and MacKenzie.   She is also survived by her sister Josephine 'Joke' (Jan) Rutten and niece Cia-Maureen (Andre) van der Steenhoven in the Netherlands.

A Tridentine Latin Rite mass of Catholic burial will be held at St. Clements parish at 231 Lake Ave. in Saratoga Springs, NY on Thursday, 12/22 at 11:00AM. Anyone wishing to pay last respects at the church is welcome to attend.

Donations in her memory will be made to the Society of Saint Pius X, and all are welcome to help their wonderful work in her name at www.sspx.org and click 'donate'

Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373).
