Saratoga Springs, NY - The Honorable Christopher J. Mega passed away on October 30, 2011 in Saratoga Springs, NY. He was 80. A lifelong resident of Brooklyn, NY Chris was a graduate of St. Francis College and a 1953 graduate of Brooklyn Law School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, practiced law in Brooklyn and in 1974 was elected to the N.Y.S. Assembly. In 1978 he was elected to the New York State Senate. While in the Senate, he served as Chairman of Crime and Corrections and The Judiciary Committee. In 1993, Chris was appointed by Gov. Mario Cuomo to be a Judge in the New York State Court of Claims. Later, Gov. George Pataki appointed him Presiding Judge of the NYS Court of Claims. In 2000 he became a New York State Supreme Court Justice until his retirement in 2006. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Madelyn (nee Friscia). He was the loving father of Christopher (Barbara,Christian), Jeffrey (Linda), Valerie Raccuia (Joseph), Jacqueline Fitzgerald (Stephen) and the proud grandfather of Christopher Raccuia, Jeffrey Mega, Victoria Raccuia, Madeline, Katie and Lauren Fitzgerald. Visiting hours will be Thursday 6:30-9pm and Friday 2-4 & 6-9pm at Clavin Funeral Home, 7722 4th Ave., Brooklyn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30am in St. Ephrems Roman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wesley Foundation, 131 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 and would be appreciated.
