Obituary

Tucson AZ- Howard McCoy Jr, 90, formerly of Saratoga Springs, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife by his side, in Tucson AZ on April 14, 2021 after battling Parkinson's disease and diabetes for several years.

Born in Schenectady NY in 1930, after graduating from Burnt Hills High School Howie joined the Navy Reserves and was soon called to active duty in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as a Sea Bee (construction battalion). This was the start of a 42 year part time military career which included several years in the Naval Reserves and many more in the Army National Guard Reserves 247th Medical Unit in Saratoga Springs, from which he retired in 1991. He spent 40 years working for General Electric Company, where he started as a carpenters apprentice and retired as a technical engineer. He spent several years at KAPL in Schenectady and his remaining years at Kesselring Site in West Milton.

Howard enjoyed watching golf on tv as well as playing and enjoyed an occasional round with his son. He bowled in several leagues over the years, enjoyed building models airplanes, tinkering with cars, and traveling. Always helping others, he volunteered as a scout leader, a Eucharistic minister at St Peter's, at SPAC, as a VIP chauffeur for the Saratoga Fair and was always ready to lend a helping hand to friend and neighbors. But he was especially there for his children, whenever or wherever they needed him. He moved to Green Valley, AZ in 2002 and was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church where he was a Eucharistic minister. Never wanting to be out of uniform for very long, he was a volunteer for the Pima County Sheriffs Auxiliary for several years. He also won many medals during the annual Green Valley Senior Games.

Howard is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Adele, his son Timothy of Boston MA, his daughters Karen Bright (Michael) of Ballston Spa, and Molly McCoy of Edmond, OK, his grandchildren Joshua Burnette, Samantha Bright, and Sierra McCoy, as well as nieces, a nephew, and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents Howard Sr and Bessie Law McCoy, an infant son Andrew, and sisters Dorothy Wozniak and Helen Chambers.
