Saratoga Springs, NY - Irma Roston Mintzer passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by her family on August 9th, 2015. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 25th, 1922, to the late Viola Cohn and Max Roston. Raised in the tiny coal mining hills of Welch, West Virginia, she later attended and graduated from the University of Maryland where she met her love and late husband Dr. Joseph Mintzer. Dr. Mintzer was the pediatrician for Saratoga Springs starting in the early 50's. Irma was his constant companion in the care of the children of Saratoga Springs. They were married June 24th, 1945. After university and WWII she traveled to Japan to be with her husband during the Occupation. She cherished her experience there. During the war effort Irma was an original "Rosie The Riveter", as a welder. She was tirelessly devoted to her family and loved ones. Irma was an unmatched hostess and gifted all of us with her special apple pie and brisket. Her home was always simmering with love and generosity. A throwback to an earlier era, one could say she was the "Quintessential Lady". She had a lifelong passion for the arts, as a pianist and frequent attendee at SPAC. Her generosity of time and spirit extended throughout the community as a past president and lifelong member of Hadassah and a member of the Sisterhood of Congregation Shaara Tfille. In her earlier years she was an active member of the Ladies Medical Auxiliary and volunteer at Planned Parenthood. In addition to her parents and husband, Irma is predeceased by her daughter Lisa Miriam. She is survived by her sister Helene Miller, daughter Loretta Ostrov and her husband Dr. Arthur Ostrov, son Steven Mintzer and his wife Kimberly Mintzer, nine grandchildren; Alyson Clark, Lucas Warnecke (Gina) Jamie Ostrov (Robin), Douglas Ostrov (Elissa), Nikole Gilet (Anthony), Justin Clark, Stephanie Ostrov, Heidi d'Esposito (Michele), Alex Mintzer, and nine great grandchildren. Special thanks to Dr. Desmond DelGiaccio having cared for Irma and Dr. Joseph Mintzer for many years. Additional thanks to the wonderful nurses and ICCU staff for their compassionate care, and the kind staff at Home of the Good Shepherd. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday August 11th, 2015 at 11:00 am at Congregation Shaara Tfille, located at 84 Weibel Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York.
