Ballston Spa, NY - John E. Brackett, Jr., of Rock Rose Way and formerly of Saratoga Springs, passed away Saturday (Apr. 17, 2010) at his residence. He was 83. Born on July 25, 1926 in Saratoga Springs, he was a son of the late John E. and Florence M. (Livingston) Brackett, Sr., and attended Saratoga Springs city schools. A former employee of General Electric, he had worked for many years as a cutting operator at General Foods prior to his retirement. A US Army veteran of World War Two, he was a recipient of a combat infantry badge, WW Two American Campaign medal, ETO Campaign medal, Victory medal and the Army's Good Conduct medal. He had also been employed as a guard for Command Security in recent years. Jack was a life member and past commander of Gurtler Bros. Post 420 Veterans of Foreign Wars, a past local commander and life member of Pup Tent # 33 Military Order of Cooties and a past Grand State Commander of the M.O.C. He was a life member of Saratoga Aerie 2586 Fraternal Order of Eagles, a former member of American Legion Adirondack Post 70 and a member of the Bethesda Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Johanna (Bauer) Brackett, whom he married on March 24, 1948 in Vienna, Austria; one brother, William Brackett of Saratoga Springs and several cousins. Members of VFW Post 420 will meet at the funeral home at 6pm Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30am Thursday at the funeral home by the Rev'd. Canon Thomas T. Parke, rector of Bethesda Episcopal Church. Burial with military honors will follow at 12:30pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
