Carrigan
February 24, 1940 – March 21, 2025
Wilton, NY – James F. Carrigan, beloved father, grandfather, and devoted husband, passed away peacefully at home on March 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 85 years old.
Born in Worcester, MA, on February 24, 1940, Jim was the son of the late James F. Carrigan and Frances M. O'Sheasy. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute on a ROTC scholarship, earning a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. After his military service in the US Army Signal Corp, Jim continued his education, earning a master's degree in civil engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. For many years, Jim proudly served in the New York Department of Transportation, where he made a lasting impact on infrastructure projects across the state. His career culminated in his role as Regional Director for the North Country region in Watertown, NY, a position he held until his retirement. Jim took great pride in the contributions he made to his community.
Outside of his professional life, Jim was a passionate golfer. He developed a love for the game early in life, starting as a caddy at Worcester Country Club. Over the years, he played many of the Capital District's most renowned courses, with McGregor Country Club, Ives Hill Country Club, and Van Patten Golf Club serving as his home courses. His love for the game was matched only by his love for his family and his community.
Jim was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Sue Carrigan, with whom he shared 59 years of love and companionship. Jim is survived by his four children and their spouses: James and Julie Carrigan of Niskayuna, NY, Peter and Jennifer Carrigan of Leesburg, VA, Melissa and Lee Blum of Denville, NJ, and Denise and Jim Nelligan of Saratoga Springs, NY. Jim was also a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren: Daniel and Liza Carrigan, Jillian and Nelson Sanchez, Elizabeth and Alysa Carrigan, Emily, Jonathan, and Patrick Blum, and Allison, Megan, and Michael May. Jim is also survived by his three brothers—Robert, William, and Tom Carrigan—and their families.
His legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to his family will live on through all who knew him.
